My mentor Brian Tracy once told us a story of his little beginnings. He said he did a lot of menial jobs; one of such jobs was serving in a restaurant. Their slogan in the restaurant was: What’s In Your Plate? The slogan was designed to keep staff alert to their duties. What’s in your plate in the restaurant means:
Do you as a staff understand the vision and mission of the restaurant?
What’s your state of mind when you are attending to customers?
Are you happy with your job?
Are you delighting customers?
Are you making a difference in your job?
Are you serving delicious food?
What’s in your plate? The staff got the answer!
The Manager of the restaurant would remind them always – the reason behind What’s in your plate – to ensure they do the right things.
The more the staff in the restaurant understand and apply the concept of What’s In Your Plate; the more they delight their customers and the more they sell.
We all have our plates in life. Plates come in different shapes and kinds. There are plates in our personal and professional lives and we carry a lot of stuff in the plates. But the question is: What really do we have in the plates?
The truth is that life comes with its own plate. Life serves its own dishes too. Some times the food life will serve would be delicious, while some other times, the food may not be as delicious as expected.
But note this: No matter what happens, you must create your own sunshine. You must determine what is in your plate. You must serve the world delicious dishes, no matter the situation … because what you give is what you get. Be happy and create the world you desire. This is how to stand out.
Let what comes from you be outstanding, no matter the environment or circumstance.
